On their chemistry …
We do fight a lot … we really do … if you spend like every single hour in a day for 12 yrs together, you are going to fight. The dynamics of being is a band is insane but being sisters help a lot because we are not going to walk off and leave … we have to resolve it. I understand why bands quit from personal issues because it is really tough. In the end we love each other so much and are each others best friends.
On which genre best describes her personality …
Julia is both deep and mellow like soul without a double with moments of hard rock. Sarah is mostly a light rock person, she wants to be hard rock but she is too deep for that (laughs). Amber is completely jazz … even the commercials would be Jazz if there were a radio station based on her personality (laughs).
Currently in her playlist …
Julia: Twilight soundtrack
Amber: Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Sarah: I shuffle through different things … Maroon 5 and a group called Steel Canvas.
On future artistic collaborations …
We would love to do something with Hanson and also do something with Coldplay, we are really nervous even thinking about that. We always wanted to work with Switchfoot and we got to last summer. Being able to write with some of the people that write our favorite songs would just be fantastic.
Everlife
What do you get when you mix soul, soft rock, and Jazz? You get Everlife: An amazing band made up of three sisters, Amber 24, Sarah 22, and Julia 19. Over the past 12 years, these three have changed their band name, record labels, cities, and even changed audiences as they have grown but have never changed their unique sound and positive message.
They grew up being influenced by dad listening to 50s, 60s, 70s rock and roll and mom to oldies harmonies and doowop music. With parents who were active in Church as Youth Pastors, it only felt right that they would do something to actively share God’s love too. Julia came up with the idea of a band. Her innocent idea at 8 has had them move to Nashville, release their first record in 2003, sign on to the Disney label and tour all around the world. In all this time, their music has evolved to having a recognizable authentic rock sound tempered by with a beautiful three part harmony.
Breaking away from previously self-titled CDs, their new music called Back from the Edge will be completed in February. This release has an enormous significance to the girls because they are producing it themselves for the first time and have taken great creative liberties that they may not have otherwise.
They set out singing Christian songs because it was all they knew. Now that relationship is more honest. They don’t sit and think to write about Jesus, they chronicle their life experiences and God is laced all through it. The song 25 from the new album is a good example of that. It was the first song they wrote after the divorce of their parent’s 25yr marriage shook their world. “The lyrics are real and true to exactly how we felt during that time. “
Their transparency with their music is consistent with their only goal for the band which is “to make amazing music that inspires people to not only ask deeper questions of themselves that they wouldn’t ask otherwise and to find God in the tiny little things of life instead of where it seems He would naturally be, and then to make a living. “
